Not every operation can be planned. Sometimes, our wildlife needs our help immediately. It is for this reason, that we have set aside some funds for “emergency operations.” These are often “ad hoc” last minute veterinary or wildlife interventions, and we assist wherever possible. So far, we have donated cover R50 000 to assist here, with some budget left over should any need arise.
Snare removal within the lowveld region, especially within the private reserves that are surrounded by extensive communities has increased dramatically. A lot of NPO’s within these regions are doing fantastic work, and we assist where possible or when we are called. We have funded several of the helicopter hours needed to search and find reported snared animals, and then transport the vets to the site where these animals can then be treated. As this increases, which will likely happen, we will assist so the needless and painful death of wild animals does not need to occur. We will continue to assist as necessary for rhino dehorning operations and the fitting of foot collars in reserves we have close relationships with.
