It’s been a strong year for Khumba Ncila and the growth of the clinic and overall impact it is having on the community. A huge congratulations to the team, and special mention to Natasha Whyte and the veterinary team and assistants who work tirelessly to make a difference! A few words from Natasha:
“We are deeply grateful for the ongoing generosity of our sponsor, Conserv Earth, whose contributions have significantly impacted several of our key projects at Savanna Trust. Their generosity continues to make a profound impact, touching countless lives and driving positive change. Together, we are creating a stronger, more sustainable future for everyone.”
A few highlights for Khumba Ncila from Natasha listed below…
Domestic Animal Sterilization Campaign and monthly veterinary visits from Lowveld Vet
Conserv Earth has been a vital partner in our Domestic Animal Sterilization Campaign. Thanks to their unwavering support, we successfully sterilized over 100 dogs across three campaigns this year. Each sterilization plays a crucial role in breaking the cycle of unwanted litters, helping reduce the overwhelming number of homeless dogs and cats. It also contributes to better health and disease control within our communities, making a lasting difference for both animals and people. Conserv Earth also sponsored the cost of a monthly veterinary visit from Lowveld Vet to assist in the growth and teaching of the students and veterinary assistants. This goes a long way to increasing the knowledge base and to drove the learning process of all who aspire to be vets and veterinary assistants on the future.
Tree Planting Day in Lilydale
In addition to their support for animal welfare, Conserv Earth organized a second Tree Planting Day in the vibrant village of Lilydale. On this special day, members from 25 community projects gathered at the Lilydale Community Hall to learn sustainable tree planting techniques, with a focus on water conservation. The event saw the donation of a variety of trees, including both shade and fruit trees, which were distributed among local schools and community projects. A total of 327 trees were planted, helping to green the area and provide long-term environmental benefits for the community.
Water-Saving Latrine Project
Conserv Earth and KwikGroup also spearheaded a groundbreaking latrine project at the Lilydale Community Hall. This innovative water-saving toilet system will revolutionize the facility, which serves up to 500 people each week. Before this project, the community hall had no access to toilets, and now, thanks to Conserv Earth, it will offer a sustainable and much-needed solution to the community’s sanitation challenges.
Tiyimiseleni Home-Based Care Centre Flooring Upgrade
The support from Conserv Earth didn’t stop there. Through their collaboration with the KwikGroup, we were able to upgrade the floors at our Tiyimiseleni Home-Based Care Centre with high-quality tiles, adhesive, grout, and self-levelling screed. This enhancement has made a tremendous difference for our housemothers, as the easy-to-clean flooring improves hygiene and contributes to a healthier, more comfortable environment for all those in our care.
